Rehabilitation and Reintegration for Street Children

At UNEH, we believe that every child deserves a chance at a safe, healthy, and fulfilling life. Our Rehabilitation and Reintegration for Street Children program is dedicated to helping children living on the streets of Rwanda find stability, support, and a path back to community and family life. Our approach addresses the complex challenges these children face, providing them with the resources and support to overcome their circumstances and transition to a better future.

Program Highlights

  • Safe Shelter and Basic Needs: We provide a safe, stable environment where children can access their basic needs, including nutritious meals, clothing, and healthcare. Our facilities offer a refuge from the difficulties of street life, allowing children to feel secure and supported.

  • Psychosocial Support and Counseling: Many street children experience trauma and isolation, which can affect their mental well-being. Our trained counselors provide individualized emotional support, helping children process their experiences and build resilience.

  • Educational Reintegration: We work closely with each child to assess their educational level and goals, facilitating their reintegration into school or vocational training. For those who have missed out on formal education, we offer tutoring and bridge programs to help them catch up and develop a love for learning.

  • Family Reunification and Mediation: When possible and safe, we support family reunification, helping children reconnect with their families or find supportive foster care. Our social workers mediate family relationships, providing guidance and support to ensure a positive and healthy reintegration process.

  • Life Skills and Personal Development: Beyond formal education, we equip children with essential life skills, such as communication, decision-making, and conflict resolution. These skills prepare them to navigate life’s challenges and make positive choices as they grow.

  • Community Reintegration: We work with local communities to facilitate acceptance and understanding, helping street children feel welcomed and included. Through community engagement and education, we reduce stigma and build a more supportive environment for these children.

By addressing the immediate needs and long-term challenges faced by street children, our program empowers them to envision and build a brighter future. We are committed to breaking the cycle of vulnerability and poverty, giving children the opportunity to thrive, and helping them transition into healthy, fulfilling lives as part of the community.
